Work-Based Learning Application Now Open
Are you a rising junior or senior interested in gaining real-world work experience while earning course credit? Work-Based Learning (WBL) provides students with the opportunity to connect their career interests with hands-on employment experience.
Who Can Apply?
Students interested in Work-Based Learning should meet the following qualifications:
Have an identified career goal
Be a rising junior or senior
Have CTAE course credit related to their career goal
Have completed Level 1 and Level 2 of a CTAE pathway, or be enrolled in the second course of the pathway
Maintain good attendance and discipline
Be on track for graduation
Have dependable transportation to and from the job site
Provide two teacher recommendations
Important Information Before Applying
WBL students must be able to leave campus for their work experience. Students must provide their own transportation or have someone available to pick them up. Remaining on campus is not an option.
Students may have one or two blocks of WBL on their schedules. Each WBL block requires a minimum of 7.5 hours of work per week. For example, a student with two WBL blocks must work at least 15 hours per week.
Students are responsible for finding their own employment. Start looking for a job now! WBL staff may occasionally share paid or unpaid work opportunities, but students are responsible for securing employment.
Work hours are calculated monthly, so hours may be completed in the evenings or on weekends in addition to the WBL period.
Please note that on-campus internships, in-home job sites, and employment with or for parents are not approved WBL placements.
WBL is also a graded course. Students will complete assignments and submit wage/hour reports, and grades are based on job performance, assignments, and reported work hours.
On the first day of the semester, WBL students will not leave campus early. Students will report to Room 104 during their assigned WBL block for orientation.
